Mohammed Ali Selo Honoured With American Thoracic Society Award
Mohammed Ali Selo has received the ATS Assembly on Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology Jo Rae Wright Early Investigator Award at the ATS International Conference in Washington, DC.
“This award was created in memory of Dr Jo Rae Wright, a brilliant researcher, leader and mentor who made selfless contributions to her trainees and colleagues. The award is given in recognition of outstanding scientific achievement by a young investigator with the goal to identify the rising stars of RCMB and encourage their scientific careers.”
Mohammed Ali, who reads toward his PhD under the mentorship of Dr Carsten Ehrhardt, was selected for the award with his work titled: Ergothioneine Induces Antioxidant Enzymes in Human Lung Epithelial Cells In-Vitro. Mohammed Ali’s PhD project, which is supported by the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute (FAMRI) and the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), investigates the role of ergothioneine and its physiological transporter OCTN1 in second-hand smoke-related chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
