TCD Pharmacy alumna and member of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Strategic Advisory Board nominated as new EMA Executive Director

Ms Emer Cooke, a TCD School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate and current member of the School’s Strategic Advisory Board, has been nominated as the new Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency.

Ms Cooke will now be invited to give a statement to the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) on 13 July 2020. The appointment of the new Executive Director will only be made after that meeting. Ms Cooke will be vacating the position of Director, Regulation of Medicines and other Health Technologies at the World Health Organisation.

 

Staff in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and colleagues on the Strategic Advisory Board are so proud of Emer's new appointment and wish her every success in her new role.


European Medicines Agency (EMA):
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is a decentralised agency of the European Union (EU), located in London. It began operating in 1995. The Agency is responsible for the scientific evaluation, supervision and safety monitoring of medicines for use in the EU. EMA protects public and animal health in 28 EU Member States by ensuring that all medicines available on the EU market are safe, effective and of high quality. EMA serves a market of over 500 million people living in the EU.
