RESEARCH INTERESTS

Assoc. Prof. Boylan is a certified pharmacist who obtained his PhD in Natural Products Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After teaching and researching in Pharmacognosy at UFRJ he decided to go for a sabbatical. This experience was in Ireland where he worked with Pharmacology of Natural Products. After being invited to stay for one year as a research coordinator and to have sat one interview process, in October 2008, he was appointed as Lecturer in Pharmacognosy at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at TCD. Asst. Prof. Boylan's background provides him with expertise in many areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences, such as a vast knowledge of Natural Products Chemistry and their Pharmaceutical Analysis, Spectroscopy (UV-VIS, FT-IT, NMR, EI-MS), Molecular Biology, as well as general pharmacology.
